Avarakkai/Broad Beans Poriyal is a traditional recipe. Avarakkai/Broad Beans Poriyal basically spicy in taste and will be very good with chapatti/Rice. It is also known as Broad beans in English... There are two varieties of avarakkai - broad & narrow beans. It will taste crunchy which is rich in fiber.I made this simple Avarakkai poriyal for our lunch today to go with Rice. Coconut and fennel adds flavor to the beans and this spicy poriyal. It can be had with Rotis too. The only difficult part is the stringing, cleaning and cutting of the beans

Cuisine: Indian (Lunch –Side dish)
1. Heat oil in a pan and temper it with mustard seeds. Once it starts to crackle, add fennel seeds . When it starts to change in color, add curry leaves and broken dry red chilly .
2. Now follow with the onions. When the onion becomes transparent and soft, add drained avarakkai and stir fry it well. . To this add the salt and rest of the powders.
3. Add the grated coconut after the avarakkai is cooked & mix it all well for a few seconds. Serve with Rice or Rotis.
NotesThose who like the smell of garlic can add 2 pods of garlic along with the red chilies. Always choose tender avarakkai for the best taste.
